Synthetic biological circuits are sophisticated tools to implement biological systems for medical, industrial, and environmental applications. So far most of the circuit implementations have relied on applying gene expression regulation at the transcriptional and translational level. However, living cells perform part of their calculation through metabolic pathways receiving multiple inputs such as signals and nutritious and process them into metabolic pathways, gene regulatory network or signal transduction. This seminar focuses on integrating synthetic metabolic pathways designed by computational tools and gene circuits for bioproduction, biosensing, and biocomputation in whole-cell and cell-free systems.
