Tobias Erb receives the prestigious Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize
The Heinz Maier Leibnitz Prize is awarded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) and the Ministry of Science (BMBF) and is the most prestigious prize for young scientists in Germany. Every year five female and five male scientists are selected and in 2016 the 10 outstanding prizewinners were selected among 134 nominees. Each laureate receives 20000 €, which is awarded on May 18 in Berlin.
Tobias Erb is head of the Max Planck research Group “Biochemistry & Synthetic Biology of Microbial Metabolism” at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology. In his research, he incorporates microbial physiology, biochemistry, and ecology with the long term aim to discover and engineer novel microbial pathways and enzymes that are important for the conversion of acetate, methanol, methane or carbondioxide.
