Dr. Scott Scholz

I work in a team to functionalize synthetic membranes with life-like properties and develop tools to improve membrane functionalization. Using reconstitution and cell-free expression methods, membranes can be equipped with natural and engineered proteins to perform designed functions. I most enjoy developing functionalized membranes for real-world applications.

I also investigate the strong impacts of the genetic context outside of typically annotated genetic elements (such as promoter and RBS) in bacteria and minimal cell-free expression systems.
