Here you can find useful information on how to open a bank account in Germany.

For opening a bank account, you need to bring a proof of residence (registration certificate, Meldebestätigung) that you received from the Registration office, and your passport. In addition to this, some banks will ask you for your tax number. If this is your first time in Germany, registration at the tax office is done automatically, after you register your residence. Approximately 2 weeks after you have registered at the City Office, you should receive tax number to your home address.

Various banks have branches in Marburg. The most common form of account in Germany is a “Girokonto” (checking or current account). For students, this type of bank account is usually free of charge.
