Third party liability Insurance is optional, but one of the most important insurances in Germany and therefore highly recommended. It covers cases of liability for injury or damage to other persons or their property and protects against any claims of a third party resulting from accidents, or against accidental property damage the person may cause. People who fail to obtain liability insurance assume full financial responsibility for any claims resulting from from accidents or accidental property damage. Many landlords ask you to get this type of insurance before you sign your house contract.
If you want to have your own property insured in case of burglary or other incidents, you need to have a household insurance.
