Book a Scientist! Johannes Rebelein
Nitrogen fixation, enzyme superheroes, and new opportunities for biotechnology

Sustainability is an important topic for Johannes Rebelein, a passionate cyclist, whether in his work as part of the MPI's Green Team or in his search for new solutions in the race against climate change.
Dr. Johannes Rebelein works with a biocatalyst that performs one of nature's most difficult chemical feats: converting elemental nitrogen into a form that can be used by plants - and by us. But in studying how nitrogenase works, Rebelein discovered that the enzyme can do even more. The enzyme could be the starting point for a new biotechnology that converts the greenhouse gas CO2 into useful materials.
