MPI PhD student network
The PhD Student Network at the MPI in Marburg is part of the PhD Student Network of the Max Planck Society (Max Planck PhDnet). Its major task is to offer opportunities to optimize the working environment for postgraduates enabling them to maximize their scientific achievements and to provide a platform for exchange among doctoral students at the institute.
The MPI PhD Network is represented by three elected doctoral students.
Current PhD representatives

The representatives are elected for a period of 18 months. Contact data are found at the page Staff A-Z.
Tasks
The PhD representatives are the contact persons for PhD student matters from outside and within the institute. They organize a number of activities to enhance the exchange between doctoral students, post-docs, group leaders, and other faculty members from all departments of the institute.

- Welcome breakfast for new doctoral students
- Bowling tournament
- Annual MPI "Sommerfest" and soccer tournament
- MPI Student Symposium "Explore the Institute"
- PhD compendium (booklet for new doctoral students)
- First-aid course for all faculty members
In addition, the representatives stay in contact with the Directorate on topics concerning doctoral student matters and attend the annual Max Planck PhDnet meeting to keep up with recent society-wide changes.
The Max Planck PhDnet
The society-wide Max Planck PhDnet connects doctoral students from all Max Planck Institutes. At least one representative from the Marburg institute attends the annual PhDnet meeting to keep the institute informed about socity-wide matters and to introduce the institute's interests. The PhDnet web pages provide information on the activities of the PhDnet workgroups, latest news. and an online forum with ongoing discussions.

Open positions for doctoral students are listed on the MPI homepage. Group leaders can also be contacted directly. Another possibility is to apply for a position at the institute's International Max Planck Research School for Environmental, Cellular and Molecular Microbiology (IMPRS-Mic).
